If you ever held any belief in Greek mythology and to Gods ruling over the planet, it is interesting to stop for just one moment and consider what their attitude would be to the way in which we are treating the planet today. Of course, if it were ever true, it’s fair to say that they would have certainly become involved by now.
One of the most important awakenings for me has been travelling here to far flung parts of the globe, witnessing first hand the devastation that mankind is inflicting upon mother nature on earth. It is only after visiting remote spots that the message becomes clear.
You see, the natural wildernesses that have existed on this planet for millennia, are being destroyed by the hand of man at an alarming rate. This is becoming evident in nearly every single country in the world and the most frustrating thing of all here; is the fact that the relevant governments are doing diddly squat to try to prevent it.
Obviously, for the most part, this all boils down to that evil element of economics. In short, few countries are prepared to put a stop to a thriving industry that is responsible for delivering so much money to the central coffers.
This is especially the case in the third world countries and it is the most unfortunate coincidence that the more important and remote wildernesses are located in these regions. Natural rain forests, along the equatorial zone are being chopped down at an astonishing rate and this is inevitably going to lead to disastrous results for the entire globe. This will come in the form of higher levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, as these forests usually assist in removing these greenhouse gases.
The Amazonian rainforest is one of the world’s biggest concerns, at present. Developed countries are starting to foresee the consequences of these huge losses and they are now making attempts to appeal to the Brazilian government to put an end to the destruction.
It is a case of ‘time will tell’, as far as these efforts are concerned. But for my part, I regret to say that I feel this may be a little too little and too late!
